2009PBX -- 21 November
2009 PBX – from the organizer(s)…
Well, it’s finally over. The Rally is done, the scores
are done and the event is also done. There’ll be more
about that later. The final scores are posted. The
results aren’t exactly as projected by many “experts”,
but they are the results, nonetheless.
As for other points, the Rally is the total sum of its
parts, and those parts are made by many people.
Raritan Valley SCC is a small Club, and as such, very
few people to do the job.
However, the big part of the team was the Rallymaster
who started work on the event in May and didn’t finish
until 10PM Saturday evening on the 21st of
November. Joe Kwiatek wanted to work a couple of
Checkpoints and ended up doing that and scoring (a
lengthy project) too. Al Rubin handled Registration
and Scoring too. Bob Shore handled Checkpoints
and all sorts of other things too. Bill Holland from the
Amateur Radio side of it handled ham operators at
Rally Central (Lakehurst), Lead Car, Sweep Car, Fast
Sweep Car and all Checkpoints. Wendell Newsome
and Sherry Morse handled SCCA Weekend
membership and somebody handled the “last PBX
Rally” hats. Donna Besignano worked Checkpoints
and handled car number returns and hat sales too (we
still have some hats left to sell). Bob McCutcheon
popped in to work a couple of Checkpoints, as did
Steve Mauger, Dave Jochen, Diane Houseal & Ed
Brennan, Bill Dalton, and Peter Schneider. The Route
Instructions were done by Fred Cochran and Donal
McNally. If I left anyone out of the workers on the
21st of November, you have my deepest apology. We
really appreciated you.
The route contained some of the popular roads of the
past, and a number of new roads. The mileage varied
during the 7 month construction period from 182
miles down to 164. Many times portions of the routes
were switched around and cut & pasted to delete bad
sections. All the route angst was due an overactive
Mother Nature and El Nino which ended up as the
wettest Spring & Summer is New Jersey’s history.
Tropical Storm Ida gave us the Coup de Gras for the
route, as Lake Fred (you remember lake Fred)
relocated & ended up being about 18 inches deep.
Too deep for 95% of the cars entered.
Speaking of cars entered, we had an all-time high – 62
of them. As usual, most had the same name, model
name and designation and color (Subaru Impreza
WRX). We also had a few GMC vans and a Jeep
Grand Wagoneer to brush aside the brush along the
crooked & narrow roads. We had more Novices than
ever, more Limited than ever, and maybe a new high
of Equipped vehicles (one was a novice).
The trophies will be mailed in December.
